Making Leather Cases For Cutting Skiving Knife

Making Leather Cases For Cutting Skiving Knife

Every production is a challenge to skill and ingenuity. Recently, I created a unique leather case for my beloved M390 steel cutting knife .

What will you need for this build?

- 1.2 - 1.4mm Vegetable tanned leather

- 0.5mm thread

- Basic leathercraft tools

The process of handcrafting a leather case is filled with challenges, but I believe it is only through such endeavors that we can truly demonstrate respect for and uphold the tradition of craftsmanship.

1.Material preparation

Before I started, I made sure I had all the materials I needed. In addition to high-quality cowhide, there are Cutting Tools , Burnish Tools , Sewing Tools , engraving tools as well as wax and care products. Everything is carefully selected to ensure a leather case that is both durable and beautiful.

2.Measurement

Without a drawing, I took measurements in a visual way, tracing the outline of the cutter onto the leather. After many adjustments, we ensure that the leather case is loose enough and can wrap the knife perfectly. This step ensures that the final holster meets the precision requirements of an M390 steel knife.

3.Cutting and Burnish

Cut the measured cowhide to keep the edges neat. During this process, I try to be as precise as possible with every cut to ensure the final holster fits the cutter perfectly. Next, I used sandpaper and a sanding tool to carefully sand the edges to make them smoother.

4.Punching

Using the removable leather hole punch , in gouge mode, the leather holes will be smaller and the sewing effect will be more refined. In hole punch mode, the leather holes will be larger and easier to sew, freely choose different styles to complete your artwork. This step is to prepare for the subsequent embellishment and sewing process. With the removable hole punch, I have more flexibility in controlling the size and spacing of the holes, making the punched portion of the holster more refined.

5.Sewing

Using WUTA thread  that matches the leather, every seam is carefully sewn using a hand sewing. Pay attention to the firmness and beauty of every stitch to ensure the quality and durability of the leather case. The entire sewing process requires exquisite manual skills, but the final result is satisfying.

6.Waxing and Edge Burnish

To increase the waterproofness and durability of the holster, I wax it using a high-quality wax . Not only does this enhance the texture of the leather, it also resists moisture and stains. After the wax application is complete, use Black EbonyWood Burnisher  to ensure smooth edges without distortion. This step is to make the edges of the leather case look neater and improve the overall feel and texture.

From the choice of materials to the final care, every step is a challenge and respect for the craftsmanship. Let more people feel the unique charm of handmade products. Friends who want to experience the beauty of this craft for themselves can click on the product link  to learn more.
